Yeah, I'm bummed about 8 too. That said it passed with a much closer % than the Knight Prop did back in 2000. I'd like to think that means we're getting more tolerant, and that we don't have a whole log longer till this Proposition is a distant nightmare.

I may be wrong on this but I believe that after all appeals are met a bill would have to go to the State Assembly stating that marriage is only between a man and a a woman. If that passes, which is doubtful, it would then go to the Governor for signing. Arnold has already said that he would not sign such a bill if presented to him. He may not still be governor by the time all this happens but I doubt his replacement would have a different opinion. On the positive side, Obama did mention gay and straight in his speech last night. And what a speech!

Obama opposes gay marriage. That said, he also opposes a constitutional ban on it.
He does, however, believe that gay couples in a civil union should get all the same rights as married couples.
Honestly, what I think they need to do is make it so marriage isn't a legal state governed by the government. Instead ALL OF US married folk should be in 'Civil Unions' where the government is concerned, and let marriage be a religious thing. That way, if you really have your heart set on the word 'married' then you just find a church that recognizes it and *bam* you're married and there's nothing noone can say about it.
Of course too many people on both sides would freak out with something like that.
People are dumb.

I'm just sad you californians didn't do more about stupid Prop 8. Now it's going to get all crazy up in the lawsuit arenas.

Yeah, I hope it hits the Courts and gets all sorts of overruled.. doubt it'll happen though.
It's unfortunate but not the end of the world.
